The Driver CPC is a scheme for LGV and PCV drivers who drive professionally throughout the UK. It has been designed to improve the knowledge and skills of professional drivers throughout their working life.

Ward International Consulting Ltd was one of the first organisations to be accredited by JAUPT as an approved training centre for the Driver CPC and offers approved, 7 hour courses both at operator's own suitable premises and at a modern training facility close to Fareham.

Our consultants are also our Driver CPC trainers bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to our popular courses. Our courses will educate and benefit all drivers - the Driver CPC is here to stay so drivers may as well benefit from the training they must undertake.

Background Information

Driver CPC applies to drivers of vehicles on roads open to the public and for which a driving licence in any of the following categories is required:

i. C1, C1 + E, C or C + E
ii. D1, D1 + E, D or D + E

It applies to both nationals of EU member states and nationals of non-EU states who are employed or used by an organisation based in an EU member state.

New drivers will take the initial qualification route and will need to pass an increased theory and practical test to gain their Driver CPC.

For existing drivers there is no initial test to pass. Instead, existing drivers will have 'acquired rights' and will be required to complete 35 hours of approved training every 5 years to retain their qualification and continue to drive professionally. Courses must be at least 7 hours duration in order to count towards periodic training which equates to a full working day i.e. drivers must complete 5 days training every five years to obtain and retain their Drivers CPC.

Only courses approved by the Driving Standards Agency will count towards their periodic training

There are very few exceptions to Driver CPC Periodic Training and it is not to be confused with the CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification held by Transport Managers - being the holder of a CPC does not exempt you from Driver CPC Periodic Training.
