The Traffic Commissioners are looking increasingly favourably on those operators who take a proactive approach to their fleet maintenance and compliance with the Operator’s Licence undertakings and who will normally have a low Operators Compliance Risk Score (OCRS) as a result.
The OCRS is based on data collected by DVSA over a 3 year rolling period from MOTs, roadside inspections, inspections at the operator’s premises and prosecutions.
As an operator you get points when a test or inspection finds a defect or infringement of the rules. The more serious the defect or infringement, the more points.
You’ll be given a score, which will be shown as R (red – highest risk), A (amber – medium risk) or G (green – lowest risk). You might have no score if DVSA doesn’t have any data for you from the past 3 years. A low OCRS will result in fewer roadside stops.
Additionally, DVSA Earned Recognition is a new way for organisations with lorries, buses and coaches to prove they meet driver and vehicle standards. They’ll regularly share performance information with DVSA . In return, their vehicles are less likely to be stopped for roadside inspections.
The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) is a voluntary accreditation scheme for fleet operators which aims to raise the level of quality within fleet operations and to demonstrate which operators are reaching its high standards.
Any proactive approach will include regular compliance audits and training to keep both management and drivers current with changing legislation and operating requirements. Ward International provides a variety of audits and training courses which can be tailored to your needs.
